Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Choi has over 20 years of experience in product development and commercialization with expertise in the medical device industry. He has held executive positions ranging from engineering to marketing and sales in start-up settings to Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to co-founding Amplify Surgical, Mr. Choi was the Chief Business Development Officer at CTL and the VP of R&D at Ellipse Technologies and VertiFlex. While at VertiFlex, he introduced a pioneering minimally-invasive technology, enabling interventional physicians to surgically treat lumbar spinal stenosis. He also led the development and the asset sale of a spinal fusion system to Stryker, achieving a 10x return in less than a year from concept to commercialization. For almost 10 years, Mr. Choi also held leadership positions in both marketing and engineering with Stryker Spine and Orthopedics.
Mr. Choi earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from U.C. Berkeley and received his MBA from Rutgers University. He also completed executive education program from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Jeffrey Roh, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Roh has over fifteen years of experience as an inventor, angel investor, and serial entrepreneur and holds multiple patents through the USPTO. He is a Co-Founder of IntuitiveX, a Seattle-based life science incubator.
He currently serves as a consultant on Stryker corporation’s Surgical Design and Innovation team and was instrumental in the development of their most commercially successful minimally invasive spine system of all time, ES2, as well as their marquee lateral access platform, ARIA.
Dr. Roh currently serves as the Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute, is the Chair of the Seattle Science Foundation’s annual Minimally Invasive Spine Symposium, and serves as a consultant on Providence Venture’s Strategy & Innovation team.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University and his spine surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. He is a graduate of the Michael G. Foster School of Business MBA program at the University of Washington and received a Master of Science in Technology Management at Columbia University in NYC.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Payne’s career spans over 30 years of financial and corporate development experience, including Big 4 public accounting, investment banking, and in operating companies. He joined Amplify Surgical in 2018 to provide financial leadership during the Company’s rapid growth phase following its receiving FDA approval. Prior to Amplify Surgical, Mr. Payne was CFO of global mobile payments and authentication provider Danal BilltoMobile. He orchestrated the divestiture of the mobile payments operations to Bango (London: BGO), joining Bango post-transaction to assimilate the business into the acquirer. Prior to Danal BilltoMobile, he held management roles in BOKU, Buzzlogic, Landmark, SVB and the predecessor to Wells Fargo Securities. Mr. Payne began his career at E&Y. Over his career, he has led M&A (buy-side & sell-side) and public- and private financing transaction totaling ~$1.5 billion in deal value.
Mr. Payne earned an M.B.A. in Finance & Corporate Policy from The University of Chicago and a B.A. in Economics - Business from UCLA. Mr. Payne is a CPA (inactive).
Mark Han, Esq.
Chief Legal Officer
Mr. Han specializes in intellectual property law with an emphasis on strategic portfolio development, investment due diligence, and commercialization of IP.
Mr. Han previously served as Senior IP Counsel at Intellectual Ventures where his team was responsible for managing all aspects of prosecution and asset maintenance for one of the world’s largest patent portfolios, with more than 30,000 assets and over $6 billion in investor capital.
Before joining Intellectual Ventures, Mr. Han practiced intellectual property law for over 10 years representing clients such as Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, STMicroelectronics, and Seagate.
Mr. Han earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. He is a member of the Washington State Bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Vice President, Sales
Mr. Hein has over 25 years of leadership experience with a record of consistent accomplishments in high growth technologies that require market creation with innovative products. His management experiences include Ethicon, DePuy Spine, Kyphon, LDR Spine, Zimmer Biomet and Paradigm Spine. He served 6 years as an active duty Army Officer, earning his B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his M.B.A. from Pacific Lutheran University.
VP Engineering and Operations
Mr. Koch has over 15 years of experience in medical devices ranging from start-ups to large OEMs. He has held numerous positions over the years with progressive responsibility leading both development and product introductions.
Prior to joining Amplify Surgical, Mr. Koch was General Manager for CoorsTek Medical development and Global Segment Manager for Synthes Spine. During his tenure at Synthes his division achieved more than five years of double digit growth through the successful introduction of technologies such as Zero-P, Prodisc-C Vivo, Synapse, and ACIS. Mr. Koch has been awarded numerous patents in medical devices including patents associated with the DualX technology.
Mr. Koch earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University and his MBA from Purdue University. In addition, he has completed executive education at Harvard Business School in Boston, MA.
